oSamp is a music player that echoes the multi-window Winamp 2.x. It was built to stay light and responsive while you listen to music. It offers a flexible interface and full control over the sound.

Sound

A parametric equalizer, not just a row of sliders

The equalizer has ten bands, each adjustable across ±12 dB, with its own centre frequency and filter width. It also includes built-in presets and a curve showing the shape of the correction.

  • Centre frequency adjustable from 20 Hz to 20 kHz for every band
  • Adjustable Q from 0.1 to 10
  • When the equalizer is off or every level is set to 0 dB, the filters remain inactive
Visuals

A wealth of visualizations, with more added all the time

Tunnels, kaleidoscopes, fire, plasma, mandalas, moiré, stars and character rain - full screen or inside the small player window. Plus a virtual turntable with a tonearm and a CRT mode straight out of a green terminal.

Frugal while it is only playing music

The audio engine runs in native code, and the windows and features you do not use can stay switched off. That makes oSamp suitable for running in the background while you work on something else.

We do not quote a single figure in megabytes or CPU percent, because it would differ on every machine and in every scenario. Fullscreen visualizations, the turntable and YouTube playback cost noticeably more than simply playing a file from disk.

Frequently asked questions

Is oSamp free? +

Yes, oSamp is completely free, with no ads and no need to provide any personal data by creating an account.

Which systems does it run on? +

Windows 10 or later, available for x64 and ARM64. For Linux, a `.deb` package is available for both ARM64 and x86_64 architectures.

Do I need an internet connection? +

No. If you’re listening to music stored on your computer, an internet connection is not required. However, to sign in to YouTube through oSamp, an internet connection is necessary.

Does oSamp collect user data? +

No. oSamp does not collect any data, including analytics or statistical data. The only data that may be collected is by YouTube, and only when you use the YouTube integration.

Can I play material from YouTube? +

Yes. You can add individual songs as well as entire playlists using a link. Signing in is optional and only provides read-only access to your playlist library.

How does oSamp differ from Winamp? +

oSamp is heavily inspired by the legendary Winamp 2.x player, while embracing modern features that simply were not possible during Winamp’s heyday. oSamp runs on its own audio engine built with CPAL and Symphonia, with the equalizer processed directly within the engine itself. It also includes YouTube integration, with plans to support music synchronization with Android-based devices in the future.
